Botox for Southbury patients is administered by Dr. Waitze and is a simple, non-surgical treatment that is used to smooth and soften frown lines. This restores the patient’s youthful wrinkle-free appearance.
Dr. Waitze is a skilled board-certified plastic surgeon and has been named a Top Doctor by Connecticut Magazine numerous times. Her wealth of experience, high degree of skill, and numerous satisfied patients make her an excellent choice for the procedure.
Benefits of Botox
Botox treats wrinkles between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), on the forehead, and at the sides of the eyes (crow’s feet) to restore a more youthful appearance. Botox can also reduce the appearance of vertical neck bands, bunny lines at the top of the nose, chin wrinkles, and more.
Because Botox does not involve any scalpels or surgery of any kind, it offers the benefit of being safer and more convenient than traditional surgical procedures. It takes less time to perform and is typically much less expensive. It also requires no recovery time.
How Does Botox Work?
Botox Cosmetic is the brand name of botulinum toxin type A, or onabotulinumtoxinA, which is derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Botox is a neurotoxin, meaning it affects the nerves of the targeted region.
A person uses their facial muscles for the same facial movements and expressions countless times throughout their life. Over time, as our muscles stiffen due to aging, it becomes harder for them to relax from these movements and expressions back to their at-rest positions. These contracted facial muscles wrinkle the overlying skin.
Botox is able to let these contracted muscles relax back to their at-rest positions by temporarily blocking nerve signals to the muscles. This in turn allows the overlying skin to lie flat again.
Is Botox Right for Me?
Most patients are ideal candidates for Botox treatments. If you have fine age lines and are looking for non-surgical correction, Botox may be the right corrective option for you.
Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, those experiencing an infection in the treatment area, or those with nerve or muscle conditions may not be ideal candidates. Talk to Dr. Waitze if any of these apply to you.
If you have moderate or deep facial wrinkles in the midface region, you may be better served with dermal fillers than with Botox injections. We offer many dermal filler products, including Juvederm and Restylane.
What Is a Botox Treatment Like?
A Botox Cosmetic treatment session usually only takes around 20 minutes, sometimes even less. Because of this, it is often referred to as a “lunch time treatment,” since it can be performed on one’s lunch break.
The treatment regions are first marked as a guide for treatment. A topical numbing cream (or in some cases an injection of local anesthetic) is then applied. Once this has taken effect, injections of Botox Cosmetic are delivered into the marked regions.
After Your Botox Treatment Session
When your Botox treatment session is complete, you will be able to immediately return to your daily schedule. This is a vast improvement over cosmetic surgery, which requires patients to experience weeks of downtime and discomfort. You will need to avoid prolonged sun exposure for a time after your treatment.
Botox lasts an average of 4 months. It can take up to 10 days to work. To maintain the benefits of Botox, patients can return for regular maintenance treatments.
The number of units of Botox Cosmetic used to resolve your age lines will determine your Botox cost. CareCredit Program financing is available – find out more during a consultation at our office.
